What happens next?

The first thing that happens -- next week -- is that the Identix float should increase by about a million shares, as the unrestricted 20% of the IDT-related 5.05 million shares threatens to burn a hole through the pockets of about 125 lucky shareholders.

You have to expect that some of these lottery winners are going to want to cash in, so I would guess that there will be a couple of hundred thousand extra shares hitting the market ASAP after the merger goes final. That will lend a piquant element of uncertainty to the stock price as IDX begins to unveil IDT-related news developments.

IDX is probably also racing to get product in place to show at CTST on May 11, if last year is any guide (when they were able to show an F3 prototype after crashing on it in the lab). They are also probably going to have the O'Hare video available at CTST. Why not? The CTST agenda seems heavier on biometrics than ever before, and there even is a mention of airport security in the advance PR. But don't expect to see any money coming from this direction yet.

So, at the least, I expect heavier trading volume in the next couple of weeks and, probably, a nice boost up in the stock price by the end of CTST. I really doubt that IDX tests $6.50 in the next few weeks. If we have more institutions buying in, the stock will stay up; if we just get individuals and traders, it will drift down again.
