can sybase remain as a competitor to microsoft.

Eric Miner who posts often understands the market better than I, but several stories as well as the market figures I posted yesterday say that the big three -- IBM, Oracle, Microsoft -- are pulling away from Sybase, Informix, and the others. It sounds like Sybase is aiming to replace falling revenues from general db products with specialized applications, some of which work with db's from other vendors.
