global,

Watch yourself on using multiple single (Diamond) cards, make SURE you know the exact set up you are contemplating will work. (EXACT multi-mon support info is as slippery as hot-swap info)

Preferably down to the motherboard.

I have been left high-and-dry by Diamond in the past (under Win98, which has OS level support for single card multi-monitors). Many have also had good luck with Matrox (some of the best drivers in the business) and ATI (also had shifting multi-mon info ala NT / All-In-Wonder Pro), again get confirmation on the exact combination you are considering.

If your question is about "multi-head" video cards (a single card that runs two or four monitors) then try these:

appian.com
matrox.com
colorgfx.com (they have an AGP version)
stbmvp.com (seemed pricey)

Depending on which card you get your price range will be $300/$400 up to $900/$1100. I purchased the Matrox Productiva 4-port for $600 and I couldn't be happier. I think most here will recommend multiple single cards, and at about $200/$300 for a full rack of 4 cards/monitors it needs to be considered. A single card will save slots, extra work configuring, and allow up to 8 monitors (with two 4-port cards). Whichever way you choose to go, RUN don't walk, multiple monitors is one of the most rewarding upgrades to my computing that I have done. Once I surfed on three monitors one is like watching a movie through a peephole (easy you gutter-minds).
