OK, I'll bite, what are you implying about military fathers since I am one. I will grant you that there is a good chance dad wasn't around as much as needed but other than that, are you implying that we push violence? I think you would find the opposite.
I think a very very big problem with the way we raise kids today is how we are not allowed to raise our kids. Ever since the government stepped in and proclaimed that children's feelings could be hurt by normal lessons of life , we have had a rise in these types of serious crimes in youngsters. Think about it, when we were young, being bad was stealing a hub cap, staying out too late talking to friends, maybe dating a girl from the wrong side of town or racing cars. We got out of line and did something serious, Dad took us behind the shed and straightened us out. If we goofed off in school, we could be held back.
Now days, if a kid can't do the school work, we don't want them singled out since this could damage self esteem, so we pass them anyway. If they mess up out of school, the parents can not give a whack on the fanny or they will be labeled abusive and sent through the court system and flunky shrinks that can't get real jobs so work for Social Services. You can't yell at your kid, or this is verbal and mental abuse, so basically your kid does all but kill someone and your only response is to give them a lollipop, ask them how they feel about it, and sit them in front of the TV.
The result is the little Johnnys in the world sees no consequences from their actions and feel they can do whatever they want. Think about it, the worst kids any of us knew in school carried a knife but hardly ever used them. Fighting dirty meant outnumbered or using a stick etc. Now days, a fight isn't a fight unless it involves an uzi, AK47 or grenade launcher. Go into any neighborhood on the ugly side of town and they have more guns than the richest member of the NRA in the good side of town. Just venting a little.
PS - More kids are killed in car accidents, choking on hotdogs and hard candy etc than were lost in Colorado the other day. Of course those aren't flashy enough to hype in the news for 2 weeks.
