Mr. R.W. Lamond reports
Earnings for the year ended Dec. 31, 1998, increased to $12.4-million
or 90 cents per share from $1.8-million or 13 cents per share reported for 1997. The company's net asset value per share declined to $1.32 per share from $1.67 per share at Dec. 31, 1997, as a result of lower oil and gas equity values.
Record revenue and earnings for 1998 resulted primarily from capital
gains on the sale of shares of Orbit Oil & Gas Ltd., and 70 per cent of the company's interest in Spire Energy Ltd. At Dec. 31, 1998, Humboldt had $10-million, or 56 per cent of its asset base in cash, which provides the company with significant flexibility to make new investments in 1999.
