As Daniel Yergin has said about the oil industry, no matter how many interesting players, motives, and tactics I look at, there are only two central characters: supply and demand. Just a little while ago, the weak sister was Maxtor. The big three didn't have the gumption to unleash a massive price war and knife the baby or consolidate it out. Once the capital infusions come in, those opportunities disappear. WDC isn't exiting anytime soon.
