It's amazing that we are talking about being taken over now a days. A far cry from our high expectations of last years. I can see someone like HP or SUN as the buyer. But the challenge of keeping its talented employees still remain. Most of these engineers probably don't want to work for HP. SUN maybe okay. But the company must do a stock option reprice first, to ensure people's stay.
Overall, being taken over is the safe way to exit this mess, but that will also end the great potentials all of us had hoped for. My ideal case would be to find a new CEO and turn this company around. Though this is a risker path, I do think that for some reason engineers have a very much gambler like mentality, as long as they see potentials, they will work hard and stay. With employees maintained, anything is possible. But at this point, the engineers are probably feeling pretty down.
All of the hot East Bay software companies are down, including WRS, People Soft, Documentum, etc.... These people do talk to each other. A lot of time, people end up going where their buddy do. Granted that enterprise software is different from embedded, people do end up leaving in boats. Just look at all of the job openings for embedded programers. The phones in WRS must be ringing off the hook by the recruiters. And new CEOs do bring in his/her own people to the management. Look for other management level people leaving quitely. |
