AOL has made their bed with the RBOC's and they better get hot on pushing the ADSL technology. They are already in nearly 20,000,000 homes so they have the distribution they really don't need the cables.
The only con with ADSL is the glacial speed with which the RBOC's move.
Remember the cable company purchase is just the first step. After that they have to install the necessary head end and switching equipment in the cable central offices. The real beneficiary here is GIC.
