Maybe I am just a grouch these days, but how can you say that the historic Trojan war and Homer's story about the Trojan war are "something different altogether"? I'll grant you that Poseidon and Hera may not have been involved, but there is quite a bit of congruence between the Illiad, as it was rendered into writing (don't have date, Encyclopedia is in process of being moved, circa 400 B.C?) and the historical site.

This is what I mean about academics. No offense. So opinionated about things that you can't possibly actually know!
