Larry,
What good is an indicator that lags so much that it tells you to buy after a 5 point rise? For those with large positions, a 5 point rise represents more money than they used to make in a year at their old jobs. How far did DELL have to drop before HAL said DELL was in a downturn? Assuming that the lag is just as bad on the downside as the upside, then this is my scenario for using HAL.

The recent top was around 46. Lets see... HAL says downtrend at around 40 and we sell... it goes to 35 and change... HAL doesn't tell us to buy until 43+. Seems like we lose more paying attention to HAL than just buying and holding.. Plus, no cap gains with buy and hold.

Just my opinion, but it doesn't make sense.
Maybe HAL is better calling tops than bottoms.
