[COMS and ISDN. . .]

<<<Thanks for the 3COM Presentation URL. I kept thinking through the presentation..who is the audience?...why would this be posted?...the conclusions..help me?>>>

Bob --

Something like 9 months ago I watched a video put out by PacBell for its employees. The basic thrust was ADSL is a better solution, it's on its way, but we've a huge investment in ISDN, so let's push it like hell before it's too late. I get the same feeling reading the COMS presentation. I agree they wouldn't have bought a 56K solution (USRX) if they thought ISDN was the answer. I also think USRX wouldn't have sold out if they thought their 56K was the best thing since sliced bread. Seems to me we might have a replay of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer white-washing the fence. Trouble is I'm not sure who's fooling who.

How about someone turn up the lights and hand the mike to Chambers.

That man is something else! During his keynote address he told the audience CSCO saved $350 million in 1996 by doing business on the Internet. He then said, "We've told our suppliers, if they're not on the Net, they won't be our suppliers."

This is where businesses are headed and for simplicity, speed *and* security, ADSL is the only viable solution.

I'm beginning to sound like a PR department.

Incidentally, this month's Wired has an evaluation of 56K modems. It makes interesting reading in that it lists some of the restrictions to utilizing full bandwidth. Not to mention the standards issue.

Regards,

Pat
