CTC, It comes from being a devoted contrarion with a unhealthy amount of disrespect for one's fellow humans. Burke's philosophy (so it seems to me) is to do exactly opposite of what the "herd" is doing at any point of time. Now, while the majority is never completely right, in this fast-advancing technological world always doing the reverse of what majority does w/o any consideration for underlying rationale leads one to become a neo-Luddite w/o a cause. Therefore, all technological advance must be pointless, and all prosperity resulting from such advance must be an accounting game of smoke and mirrors. -BGR.
