When did Intel ever say that in 1998 and early 1999, they would be using only Rambus memory chips. Intel has to come out with something better and faster for this years production, otherwise AMD will eat Intel's lunch. Why is the market surprised by this. I thought Intel said the the first chips to get Rambus chips were the higher priced chips and that over time Rambus would be integrated in over the next couple years. As far as Intel dropping Rambus, that's stupid speculation. Why would Intel throw money out to the manufactures to build and or upgrade plants to produce Rambus chips?
