Possibly but something has to be done to stem the Dell onslaught.
Dell will put in a server just to see if you like it. If you like it, pay us. If you don't we'll take it back, no questions asked.

Spinning off AV wouldn't take anything near a year to begin and CPQ stock price would be immediately affected on the announcement, should it be to shareholders.

Certainly Compaq has internet infrastructure, they have Alta Vista. They sell computers over the net. They have a tremendous amount of leverage in this area they don't even know about. Look at Intel, if you push their chips they will be an advertising partner with you. Compaq EVEN HAS THE ADVERTISING MEDIUM. ALTA VISTA!
Compaq is a box maker, so I can understand how they have not realized this possibility, but I cannot forgive them for not thinking of it.
Compaq is an easy turn around for someone with just a little vision.
