Fri 23 Apr 99 News Release
Mr. Ronald L. Patton reports,
Ronald L. Patton, Chief Operating Officer of USA Video Interactive (NASD:
USVO; ASE: US) is at the National Association of Broadcasters annual
convention in Las Vegas for several meetings to demonstrate the USA Video
Interactive Video-on-Demand, encoding and compression technologies. In one
of these showings, Patton has been requested by Independent Digital Media
(IDM) to provide a private demonstration of the USA Video Interactive
technology. He also will finalize arrangements for purchasing a system that
integrates the IDM and USA Video Interactive technologies to support USA
Video Interactive's digitization of content using its Wavelet, MPEG-1 and
MPEG-2 technologies.
"We wish to create a fully functional editing system for Intranet and
Internet broadcasting," said Chris Hendrick, VP of Sales for IDM. "By
combining USA Video Interactive's technology with our Discreet Edit system,
we wish to enable broadcasters the ability to share their work globally."
IDM is a full service designer and provider of high-quality, real-time,
non-linear digital editing equipment. Headquartered in New York City, IDM
provides services to major broadcast facilities including ABC/Disney (NYSE:
DIS) and Fox News (NYSE: FOX); post-production facilities including Jim
Henson Productions; and corporate clients including Lucent Technologies
(NYSE: LU).
While USA Video Interactive can digitize content in the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2
formats, it prefers to utilize its Wavelet technology to compress and
digitally encode videos. The USA Video Interactive Wavelet technology is
fully compliant with MPEG-4 standards; allows direct streaming and download
& play options; provides video images significantly faster and at a higher
degree of resolution than previously available methods; significantly
overcomes bandwidth restrictions; and eliminates the blockiness and
slowness of current technologies, all at a lower cost. It allows extremely
high compression ratios while retaining broadcast quality, an essential
feature of the USA Video Interactive technology.
USA Video Interactive is an international designer and supplier of
high-tech Video-on-Demand(tm) systems and services. The USA Video
Interactive technology allows users to view streaming video or to access
digitized video libraries, including movies, sports, other entertainment,
educational resources, corporate training seminars and other archives. The
USA Video Interactive technology gives users full-screen video; the unique
flexibility of standard, VCR-like controls of play, fast forward, reverse
and pause; and it uses a standard Internet-browser format for access. USA
Video Interactive was established in 1989 and has offices in Mystic,
Connecticut and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
