I agree they sat back, but the hands up was probably a good tactical yet insensitive move. The gunmen could have taken off right behind everyone and gotten away with it. Ugh...even the possibility of such a right-under-their-noses escape a la "Silence of the Lambs" makes me ill. They would have been positively identified by other students as the killers, but might have had the chance to be fugitivies for a long period of time. Suicide however appears to have been part of their plan. But you're right...they could have tried running out with other kids, especially if they joined a group of kids who had barricaded themselves elsewhere in the school and did not know who had done what. I thought a SWAT team was supposed to STORM the building. Hell anyone can stand outside and wait for the smoke to clear! The questions you & others have posted re police/SWAT team seemingly avoiding harm's way are very much justified and should be part of the overall investigation, perhaps at the Federal level.
