hdl,

Assuming that it is not a rhetorical question, there are three points that I would like to make:

1. Why invest in the hardware sector? Well, I believe that this sector still provides decent (but not exceptional as in the past few years) growth opportunities in USA and Europe and tremendous growth opportunities in Asia. Also, it is still fragmented to a very large extent, thus providing ample opportunities for the final winners (yet unknown) to grow by gaining market share.

2. Why is the final winner going to be? My money is on DELL. They have the best track record and the same set of executives are still running the company.

3. But what about the PE? I do agree that DELL has limited opportunities for equity growth through PE expansion. But, it clearly has a relatively lower PE than other companies which have similar growth opportunities to the best of my knowledge. If you can propose some other companies have similar or better track record and growth opportunities as DELL but lower PE, I will be much obliged as I always welcome the chance to diversify.

Hope this answers your question.
