Knight,

Yes,IOS is Cisco's proprietary OS. I am no expert. But I think you are correct. If Cisco did decouple IOS from their hardware it would generate some competition. If you remember at the last WIND CC Ron talked about Tornado for switches as "Cisco in a box" or something to that effect. What do others think ????

Regards
JC.

PS. WIND is involved with Cisco via its "NetWorks" program
wrs.com

"Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) will make use of Wind River's Tornadoâ„¢ development environment and VxWorks® real-time operating system as the initial reference platform for the delivery of Cisco networking technologies under the Cisco NetWorks Program. The Cisco NetWorks Program is a partnering program designed to accelerate the global availability of a new generation of low-cost, easy-to-use Internet devices that can transparently plug into any IP network"
