90% of computers are PC's Charles. Far from a hobby market.

Cell phones and palm pilots are computers. There are computers in cars and VCR's. Check back in five years and see what percent of computers are PC's as we define them today (i.e., mildly improved 1981 architecture). In five years, see how many powerful CPU's are deployed; how many different kinds of devices they're in; how many bits in their IP addresses; how much bandwidth they use; how big, reliable and powerful the server/storage/wireless/fiber etc. infrastructure to support them has to be.

It does continuously amaze me how people just don't understand how completely unrelated the discussion about Sun's future and the discussion about PC's and Windows NT and workstations and Linux are. I feel like I'm shouting down a well or talking to myself. Whatever.

Given that valuations have stopped being mathematical exercises and started being matters of conjecture, here's my personal conjecture: Sun is not overvalued at any 2-digit number.

Disclosure: surprise -- I'm long.
