Icon stuff:

You've asked an interesting question. Here's how to get your answer.

THIS STUFF IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! Anything involving Windows registry has GREAT POTENTIAL FOR DISASTER. PLAY IT SAFE and BACKUP your registry first.

Click start, click Run, type in 'REGEDIT' for registry editor.

Click box with '+' beside HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and you'll get a long list of stuff. Look for the file you want to associate your new icon with. Keep clicking '+' boxes until you come across 'DefaultIcon' and select it.

Now, in the right part of the screen, you should see where your object gets its icon image from. Use your judgement about changing this setting. I can't help you here because I don't know what you'll find at this point.

RECORD CURRENT VALUES BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING! If you don't, you'll be VERY familiar with Win98 by the time you get your system running again.

I usually end with 'hope this helps' but not now.

Hope this doesn't hurt, PW.

P.S. Again, If anyone has an easier or SAFER way, please let us know.

P.S. If the file you want to 're-icon' is standard, maybe you could mention it in another post. Some files have easier 'iconability' than others.
