Pure speculation on my part, but I think Apple is expecting Avid to do an about face when they see the hardware planned for the high end later this year.

I would bet that Avid already knows what Apple has planned for later this year (and next) [e.g. 4 processor G4 Sawtooth servers running an industrial strength SMP OS X].

I still think that there may be room for a raprochement in this area (like the Quicken/Apple saga), but I'm surprised that Apple let it get to this far.
