Good point (on simplifying life, dumping the extra expenses and extravagance, dumping the one job, and putting the emphasis on the family).
Saw an excellent documentary some time ago on VOLUNTARY SIMPLICITY movement in Seattle area.
To me, it was somewhat (though not entirely) eye-opening; what was moving was that there was some considerable involvement in this in the community - they attend meetings about it!
No such thing around here: I am in the NY-NJ megalopolis, where everyone is hell-bent on their long commutes, hard work, striving. (I am sure there is some sanity in the mix, but sometimes it is hard to see it).
One vignette involved a couple that simplified the business situation (they previously owned a couple of ice cream shops), dumped the Mercedes, bought a simple car, dumped the big house, bought a smaller yet livable one, ended up with all sorts of free time, better family life, better quality of life, etc.
It made that point so beautifully. You did, too.
Single, so I can't dump my job, :-) George |
