Randy,

There are basically 2 methods of shorting - FUNDAMMENTAL AND TECHNICAL.

I am a technical shorter. Actually I normally look for good stocks which have good predictability based on the technical indicators.
Then I wait until the technicals have reached a very strong overbought level, which is normally very noticable.

The last step is then to check the market and the appropiate industry sector to see if they are also in the overbought mode.

I have noticed that the the technical shorts are normally more short-term, while the fundamental shorts are more long-term.
