Hand guns: In South Africa the soaring crime rate caused everyone to buy a gun. The consequence has been a huge escalation in shooting deaths in family disputes,in bars and due to roadrage. An organized effort to disarm the country has grown from this.

I personally know a case where a man and his wife trained themselves in every aspect of self defense with guns and had them ready in their car. However they were car jacked and shot to death before they could react.

Guns rarely are used in self defense. Unless one walks around with a loaded gun in hand but then the chances of an accident are huge.
