A quick note on the CIH virus:

Make no mistake, it is a nasty one. I doubt it's as widespread as the Melissa virus was, but it's much more damaging. It can rewrite the boot code of your hard drive (kiss your data bye-bye), and even overwrite your system's BIOS code (kiss your motherboard bye-bye).

There is no need to keep your computer off on the 26th though. You can simply change the system date to the 27th on Sunday, and change it back on Tuesday. Although it might screw up your email date, it's s small price to pay considering the alternative.
