CGarcia,
DSL has the potential to go that fast, but typically you pay alot more for the faster connection. In my area (Washington, DC) the $39 rate will only get you 640K connection while for the same $39 you can get the cable modem service which is typically 10 times faster. Plus, with the so-called "specials" the cable companies run you can always get free installation.

Below are out local DSL rates from Bell Atlantic:

Infospeed 640Kbps $39.95
Infospeed 1.6Mbps $59.95
Infospeed 7.1Mbps $109.95
Service Connection Charge: $99.00
DSL Modem: $325.00
Turnkey Home Installation: $99.00

I think that DSL will do extremely well. In fact, I have been investing some of the DSL players for a while. But, I wouldn't discount the cable services (@Home and Road Runner) if I were you. I think that both home-based broadband services will do extremely well and their biggest problem will be meeting demand.
