i like idea of msft providing msn thru cable with athm. how likely is this

Unlikely through ATHM, but highly likely through RoadRunner, the competing service co-owned by TimeWarner, MediaOne, Microsoft, Compaq, and Newhouse.

There is some speculation that RoadRunner and @home will merge as part of the current consolidation of cable companies. Teflon thinks it's likely. I think it's nearly impossible. @home is buying Excite partly to get its own portal and content services. RoadRunner has so far avoided such a purchase, so MSN still looks like a good candidate.

Microsoft has also been making heavy investments in ADSL companies during the past three months, so they won't be left out of the broadband arena.
