Vendit,

1. How can I tell when a stock is overvalued

Traditional methods, If I think its cumulative earnings in the next ten years are not going to be even close to its current market cap, for example.

2. Is a P/E of 100 too high?

Not if the company's earnings will increase 20 fold in ten years.

3. I agree AOL has better numbers then most of the inuts. You want sane valuation? Look at CHKP numbers.

4. A buy and hold strategy was extremely beneficial to AOL, YHOO, AMZN, etc. investors. Also for MSFT investors, also for index funds investors. So far.
Same strategy was good from '44 till '68, but not that good from '68 to '82.
