The reason for repricing the options--and I do not necessarily endorse it--is prevent the crush at the door because the options were granted in lieu of cash. It is to try to ensure that there is some minimum. The assumption is that the options were granted in the first place to people who are working hard as a potentially greater reward than cash if the hard work pays off in profit growth and a rising stock price.
