Dale, If they ever do something right...NAH. I have watched this stock closely for almost 2 years now. The problem is that they have not ever had a product that was competitive. They always seem to try to do 'ME TOO" products that are not as good as the originals. When they had a product that was one of only two available, they mishandled it by putting it on the market before it was fully developed. Now with at least 35 companies offering Net Phones they cannot seem to keep up with the pace of developements in the market.
Just look at what has happened in the last 8 months since Camelot released Digiphone Delux (which was not a new product, but rather the same old application with a few bells and whistles that are really not very useful... voice effects??). Vocaltec has released a completley new version of Iphone, then followed up with a free upgrade that allows video. Intel and M$ have released 2 new versions each, and an upgrade for video...both of these apps are free.. Webphone has introduced 2 major revisions, the last with video capabilities. Even Iris phone which is produced by a small group in Pakistan, has released 2 versions and an upgrade with Video.
What has Camelot done. Well they promised Digiphone 2.0 in December '96, but THREE months later it is nowhere to be seen. To my knowledge, when 2.0 is delivered it still will not have the feature sets including video , whiteboard, text chat, file trensfer, easily accessible on-line user data, and application sharing that all of the real players now have. So in 8 months or so after Delux, what have they done??? Not much!!
So now we have an also ran software application that is not selling, an ISP business losing money, a retail division that is dying, A European distributor that has never done any distributing and whose stock price has plummeted...
You judge, are these guys keeping themselves in a postion to be competitive??
Cold Fusion? Well if they get a patent for this technology, hopefully they will sell it to someone that can actually develop it. Otherwise, we might well never see a commercial application available.
BTW the fact that you mention Say-It and cold fusion in the same posting leads me to believe you may be overstaing the significance of this $15 program. To say the least!! |
