You must have misunderstood me. I would be stupid to deny that inflation creates strong value in gold. But I wasn't taking about inflation in that post. I was discussing DEFLATION and DEPRESSION. Falling prices and negative economic growth.

Gold went to $800 an ouce primarily due to foolish monetary policy in the early to mid seventies... taking the dollar off the gold standard... and finally, OPEC's shenanigans.

The POG was artificially high then, and some would contend now.
