"It seems like a no-brainer to me, but is there any reason I should consider Covad's service if all I'm looking for is faster charts and quotes?" Maybe, depending on your circumstances and requirements. Let's assume that each provided you with identical link profiles. What other features will each support? How many mail addresses? Server capacity? Will they differ in how they provision (or, if they provision at all?) virtual private networking (VPN), such as assurances on Layer 2 tunneling protocols and security features? What kind of links do each have to the greater Internet throughout the edge and to the upstream core? This last one will affect your throughputs during busy periods just as readily as the link speed to the residence or small business. Which of the two is more incented to provide adequate capacity in these regards? Which will make multiple VoIP channels over the same line a standard option in the near future, obviating the need for multiple POTS lines? I think that all of these goodies behind the curtains need to be examined before we can assume that we are dealing with an apples-to-apples situation. Very likely, you'll find an entire fruit stand out there before long, from which to make many different comparisons, keeping you busy for a long time to come. Reagrds, Frank Coluccio
