The news about the pre-amp chip is over 3 months old. If it is a modification of a existing design it may only take a few weeks for design and a month for prototype another few weeks of testing. So at this point they could be setting up for mass production of the chip. Remember Maxtor had plans to have the entire hard drive designed by the end of this month!
