Armstrong is reported to be friends w/ Gates and I'd expect these friends to discuss plans before acting in a public way, or against the plans of the other. I have no clue as to MSFT's active involvement in comcast or any of its myriad of investments, but assuming that it's a passive investor, more interested in the investment to have an inside track on the future of a given industry for its own software purposes, then I'd not expect Gates to come out as the deep pocket for comcast in a bidding war against his friend Armstrong. Isn't MSFT's investment in non-voting shares like comcast was offering UMG? They seem to be the folks w/ control on the top of the agenda; not the kind of family I'd want to partner w/; my money and their control. That's the stuff you can invest in w/o stepping up to fight for. If comcast gets a partner to help w/ big bucks it'll be somebody obvious only in retrospect, I've no clue who presently. lnk
