Hey, Karma, I really like that-- especially the second verse- "digi apparitions with their dream smiles- Like a soul train.."
Can I talk about church this morning? I think you might understand this as I know you've experienced the power and emotion of group prayer-
The congregation prayed, of course, for the children of Littleton. They read aloud each name, and our acolytes lit a votive candle for each and someone rang a gong. It was extremely moving, and horrifying. And by the time they got to Harris and Klebold, almost everyone was openly weeping, many were holding their children's hands or hugging. The minister preached on our responsibility to not just our own but to each other's children, and at the end of the service she invited anyone who wanted to covenant with each other and God to work for peace and for the children to come forward. The entire congregation rose.
I was singing in the choir and we were all wiping our eyes and missing notes right and left. (It was "On Eagle's Wings" which I love anyway)
I struggle a lot with my spiritual life, having trouble labeling whatever I am. But I understand the need for community. We are a lot like LIttleton- white, uppermiddle class, educated- and I know every parent there was hearing the name of his own child being read in his mind and wondering...
Anyway, it all sounds corny in the retelling but it was a very strong moment of unity--- and I think that's one of the things we have lost in today's society. We need connections- healthy ones. Or we wind up with A Clockwork Orange. |
