WT,
From my post to you...
> On rereading your quote above I guess you meant the Auto pistol was modified to Semi so it would be legal. If so, you did understand the difference.<
I never claimed the military style rifles were "just like" hunting rifles, only that they operate in exactly the same way, one trigger pull, one shot. Again please stop putting words in my mouth.
Why do people want these guns? Doesn't matter.
Your rant about the Constitution is just that. Plans for nukes, nerve gas, bio weapons are already available to anyone who wants to look, on the internet and elsewhere. I am not about to let you decide what I may or may not read or know about.
As to the Second Amendment I take the Constition literally when it says "the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed". The meaning of "militia" as understood by the Founders was all males from 18 to 45 (ages approximate as I am to lazy to dig it out of the bookshelf) capable of bearing arms in the particular state or county being talked about. It does no good to call out a militia that has no weapons. Check out a couple history books.
Do you have a citation to back up your 30,000 number? The same argument could be used to ban automobiles, there is no doubt that more die from accidents than die from guns.
Your whole argument boils down to prior restraint. You seem to think that because someone could do something bad with a tool or piece of knowledge we should outlaw the tool or knowledge. I prefer to punish people for their acts, NOT their potential acts.
History Quiz... What was one of the first things Hitler did after coming to power?
I am not a "gun nut" but I am a "LIBERTY NUT" and do believe that the best defense of our liberty is the widespread possesion of the means to resist tyranny i.e. guns. You stike me as a "control nut" who seems to think we can create a perfectly safe society by banning guns, then certain types of knowledge. Whats next... controls on movement, a ban on heavy metal music and video games. Governments throughout history have used the average citizen's fears to impose more and more control. Ours is no different.
