Things are going to get mighty interesting. We have 56k, ISDN, xDSL, Cable Modems, Satellite, Wireless, hmmm did I leave anything out? I think the biggest battle will be xDSL versus Cable Modems.
I think we'll see a large deployment of both over the next several years. Some areas already have Cable internet access. My area will have xDSL before Cable. US West will offer it this year.

I may end up with satellite as I plan on moving to a somewhat remote area. You may want to check the Real life connection speed's thread. Some intresting stuff going on....
