DETROIT, April 25 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. plans to unveil details this week of a new $1 billion business it is launching that will rank as a Fortune 1000 company, Ford officials said.

They said Ford will provide a background briefing for reporters Monday and release details on Tuesday but declined to provide more specifics.

Since Jac Nasser took over as chief executive officer January 1, the world's No. 2 automaker has been pushing to redefine itself from a traditional manufacturer to a consumer-driven company by branching out
into new businesses.

On April 12, Ford announced it purchased Edinburgh-based Kwik-Fit Plc, Europe's largest auto repair chain, for $1.6 billion.
