Just sort of cruising in a sea kayak is one of my favorite ways to pass the time. I live on a large tropical bay; the south side used to be part of a US Navy base, and much of it still has virgin rainforest coming right down to the water; on the other side there are a few fishing villages, not many trees. The inner edge is pretty well built up; I avoid it. I don't paddle much outside the bay, though I'd like to. I'm the only paddler in the area, except for a few guys with sit-on boats that rarely go far from the beach. More fun to do long trips with a few boats along, especially if it involves camping. My boat has quite a bit of cargo capacity, but I don't want to carry everything for everyone, and if the other guys are in sit-ons, I would have to. Odd, but the boat actually seems to handle better with a moderate load, especially on windy days. If it's blowing hard I put sandbags in the hatches; keeps the wind profile down a bit and I don't lose any perceptible speed.

Good fun all around, almost hard for me to imagine those crowds of paddlers, though. Here I almost never see anyone in the bay, and I've never seen another paddler on one of the whitewater rivers.

Any descriptions of the spots less frequented?
