Rob - Re: " -- How does Merced get any Linux support at the common user level (where a good deal of Linux thrives) if the cheapest Merced box at intro is $7000+? "

Initially, it won't. Merced is not a DeskTop product.

Deerfield - a few years down the road - will be such an IA/64 product.

Re: "Merced won't do great on IA32 binaries, etc."

Nope - but it will do them directly - and FASTER than any ALpha can do them!

Re: "I suspect 21264 will get a whole lot more popular this summer with .28 micron boxes in abundance."

Well - a futurific speculation. We'll just have to wait and see if your dream comes true.

What's in it for you if it does come true?

Paul
