Mountain Cablevision Selects Com21 DOCSIS Cable Modems; Com21 Cable Modems Capture Canadian Deployment
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999--Com21, Inc., (Nasdaq:CMTO), a leading supplier of communications solutions for the broadband access market, announced today that Canadian-based cable operator Mountain Cablevision Ltd. has selected Com21's new DOXport(TM) DOCSIS-compliant cable modems for an initial deployment in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, west of Toronto.
Mountain Cablevision offers cable services to more than 46,000 homes.

"We are pleased to announce the commencement of our relationship with Mountain Cablevision, an early adopter of DOCSIS technology in Canada," said Pete Fenner, president and chief executive officer at Com21, Inc.

"Mountain Cablevision is one of the first Multiple System Operators (MSOs) in North America to select Com21 DOCSIS technology. We are currently being evaluated by a number of other MSOs, and expect that our advanced DOCSIS products will be a strong factor of our success this year," added Fenner.

Bruce Marshall, technical director at Mountain Cablevision Ltd. said, "We chose Com21's DOCSIS-based cable modems for this initial deployment based on their leading-edge technology in the delivery of high-speed data to the business and home. As an industry leader, we're confident that Com21 will be able to deliver quality products on time and to meet our needs."

Com21 is the third largest supplier of cable modem technology worldwide with 126,000 modems shipped through 3/31/99, based on independent market research studies conducted by GartnerGroup's Dataquest (1H'98), The Dell'Oro Group, and Cahner's In-Stat Research Group. To date, Com21 ComPORT(R) cable modems are commercially deployed worldwide with over 9.8 million households passed.
