[South Central Telcom Selects Newbridge Networks LMDS Solution - Newbridge Broadband Wireless Access Solution Continues to Lead U.S. LMDS Market]

HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999--Broadband wireless industry leader Newbridge Networks, today announced it has been selected as the strategic networking vendor for the implementation of a local multipoint distribution service (LMDS) network for South Central Telcom, a full service telecommunications service provider and LMDS spectrum holder. Full-scale deployment of network services is slated to commence in mid-1999.

LMDS, a high frequency broadband wireless system operating in the 28 GHz spectrum, cost-effectively delivers data, Internet, voice, video and multimedia services using point-to-multipoint distribution systems. South Central Telcom holds Federal Communications Commission (FCC) LMDS spectrum licenses for both 'A' and 'B' band spectrums with a coverage area of 18,000 square miles. The Newbridge(r) LMDS network will enable South Central to expand its current customer base by diversifying and differentiating its service offering to deliver telemedicine, distance learning and leased line services.

"Newbridge provides both the technology and business case support that enables South Central to identify and capitalize on key market opportunities," said Ernest Campidilli, General Manager, South Central Telcom. "After extensively researching the vendor community, we chose the Newbridge solution because its multiservice platform and end-to-end network and service management provide the optimal approach for cost effectively delivering a full range of premium quality services."

South Central Telcom is the third U.S. LMDS licensee to select the Newbridge broadband wireless solution, following announcements with Central Texas Communications and Home Telephone Inc.

Newbridge has also announced it is supplying LMDS networks to Canadian nationwide spectrum holder MaxLink Communications Inc. and Korea Telecom, the world's eighth largest telecommunications company. "Newbridge understands that successful LMDS network deployments demand a partnership between the service provider and the equipment manufacturer," said Conrad Lewis, Executive Vice President, Access Products Group, Newbridge Networks. "We have worked closely with South Central Telcom to ensure that its LMDS network provides the flexibility and scalability to move quickly on revenue-generating market opportunities."

South Central Telcom, a subsidiary of South Central Telephone Association, Inc., has been providing state-of-the-art telecommunications services to customers for more than 45 years. South Central has deployed technologically advanced switching and network facilities delivering high-quality services to customers since the company's formation.
