Ford to Sell Auto Parts Online in 'Virtual Junkyard,' WSJ Says
Bloomberg News April 26, 1999, 4:53 a.m. PT
Detroit, April 26 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co., the world's second-largest automaker, is expected to announce today that it will sell used auto parts primarily through the Internet, the Wall Street Journal reported. Ford's new unit will receive orders for specific parts on-line and then send them via express mail to insurance companies, repair shops and consumers, according to the Journal. In addition, the automaker will sell new auto parts with slight defects, the newspaper reported.
Earlier this month, the automaker's financing arm, Ford Motor Credit Co., became the first company to offer commercial paper, or unsecured obligations due in less than 270 days, directly over the Internet. |
