Backup stuff:

Just musing about backup. If Windows won't start, how do you restore your system if you've made a backup using Windows' backup utility?

Here's the answer. You NEED to make a bootable floppy. This allows you to start your system in DOS. Once running with DOS, you need to do a system recovery. Here's how:

Boot to DOS.
Format hard disk.
Insert Windows98 CD
Copy CD's 'Win98' contents to hard drive. (To C:\Win98\*.*)
Copy CD-ROM:\Tools\SysRec\PCRestore.Bat to C:\ (The root)
Copy CD-ROM:\Tools\SysRec\MSBatch.Inf to C:Change to root of hard drive 'CD C:\'
Run PCRestore.Bat

Setup starts and you answer the prompts

System recovery launches Microsoft Backup and restores your system. You choose to overwrite your files and the registry. Choose restart when prompted.

When the dust settles, you'll have your system the way it was when you did the backup.

Hope this helps. PW.

P.S. Ever wonder how we managed to get the same name on Silicon Investor?

P.P.S Make the bootable floppy if you didn't do it when you installed Win98.
