I am not an expert on the subject of uniforms, but it occurs to me that many "private" schools have uniforms, military academies, etc. We have not heard of any school shootings at these places (think of the availability of guns at a military academy!). I've also heard of some public school districts across the country that require uniforms.

There are also many arguments both for and against uniforms. The current thinking against them is that it "stifles individual expression and suppresses a child's individuality." Many parents have the attitude that their children should be able to wear anything they want (within the limits of decency of course).

My personal opinion is the kids at Columbine would have been mercilessly ridiculed with or without uniforms. They have stated publicly they enjoyed being different, but not the constant bashing by the "in" crowd and jocks. It all comes back to strength of character of the individual not being instilled at an early age. That's what I have gathered from all the reports on this thing so far.
