re: manipulation (probably not) I think the root cause is that this puppy has alot of daytraders. From what I've read, many of them like to close their positions at the end of the day; which means that they have to open their positions at the start of the day. Consistently higher prices in the early morning than in the late afternoon seems to fit this model. Don't know how people can make alot of money in the long term that way, but who knows, some people may do better than a trip to the casino with this strategy :-)
