I don't think pure electrics are dead with the Big Boys. I think we are just seeing the tides shift and ebb and flow and create new sand bars. While not a big fan of fuel cell vehicles and hybrids they both improve and lower the cost of the pure electric vehicle components (motors and controllers).

While GM and Honda may be moving away from pure EV and Toyota is already part way there with the Prius, Ford has just purchased a big hunk of PIVCO which I believe is still pure electric. Solectria is out there. Bomabardier is out there with their hot selling neigborhood electric vehicle. And a number of scooter manufacturers are launching as we speak.

Before we bemoan the death of electric lets go see the results of the NiMh shootout which shall operate under the monniker of the Tour de Sol at the end of May. It ought to get some pretty good press. Hey, maybe we could even wake up Ruder Finn and roll them out to the event? Naw, they're way too busy...
