Wayne, this was the first year (tax year 1998) that the Service started to accept credit cards as payment, although it really wasn't publicized that much. BB got my curiosity up so I did a little digging this morning and found out that USAudiotex and Novus were the outfits handling it this year. You could select this credit card payment option whether you filed electronically or in paper.

The following link gives the fee schedule and you can see the fee is about 2.2% plus a bit, depending where you are in the schedule:

I'll be interested to see how this works out. While I haven't checked this out, it seems like a good idea if you plan on going bankrupt since your credit card debt could be discharged. The Service is getting a bit looser on Offers in Compromise, but nutin' like the 'ole bankruptcy judges. -g-
