Blue, not even I would call The New Yorker a "trashy" magazine (don't know about the others you cite, because I have never read them). And certainly not all movies are trash, nor are all TV shows. For that matter, of course a lot of "high culture" has penetrated the mass media. It's just that in order to become an "expert" on popular culture, one would have to wallow in the trash, too.
