Ford Motor Co. Invests in Scrap Vehicle Business

Dearborn, Mich.-April 26-FWN/UPI--Ford Motor Co. today
said its plan to expand into the field of auto parts
recycling is no junkyard dog, but rather could become a $1
billion-a-year business.

As a first step, Ford said it has bought a "vehicle
recycling operation," better known as an auto junkyard, in Tampa, Fla.

The automaker has its eye on creating a national
network of auto scrapping facilities and used parts sales as
part of "a significant environmental enterprise."

In coming months, Ford says it plans to expand its
presence in the auto recycling business "substantially" to
boost revenues, reduce the amount of auto parts dumped in
landfills and work more closely with customers.

One part of the plan calls for collecting recyclable
parts from Ford factories for resale to body shops,
insurance companies and retail vehicle customers.

Ford President and CEO Jacques Nasser says the
enterprise "is directly aligned with our corporate
objective of environmental leadership. We also see this as
potentially $1 billion or more business for Ford."

Link this service with the Internet so that buyers can find "used" auto parts on the net, this should become a very profitable business.
